\nJan.31 (UPI) — A skier died in Utah after being trapped in an avalanche on Saturday, officials said. The Summit County Sheriff’s office announced Sunday that Kurt Damschroder,57, died after being caught in the avalanche outside resort boundaries near Park City Mountain Canyons Village. The avalanche was triggered when Damschroder and a friend were skiing in the area known as Square Top on Saturday. \u00ab\u00a0The friend immediately called for help, located the skier with the help of an avalanche beacon and attempted lifesaving efforts for more than an hour,\u00a0\u00bb the sheriff’s office said. The sheriff’s office added that \u00ab\u00a0extreme danger\u00a0\u00bb in the area prevented rescuers from being able to reach the scene before nightfall Saturday. Responders were able to get into the avalanche zone and recover Damschroder’s body on Sunday.
