He also played the Rev. Tom Winter \u2014 whose affairs certainly were more than clerical \u2014 in more than 60 episodes of the New England-set 1960s romantic drama \u00ab\u00a0Peyton Place.\u00a0\u00bb During his long TV career, Hogan was a regular on a handful of short-lived series, starring opposite the titluar star of \u00ab\u00a0The Don Rickles Show\u00a0\u00bb (1972), with Dennis Dugan in the 1978 Steven Bochco-Stephen J. Cannell drama \u00ab\u00a0Richie Brockelman,\u00a0\u00bb \u00ab\u00a0Private Eye\u00a0\u00bb \u2014 and its follow-up TV movie \u2014 and the 1980-81 Midwestern family drama \u00ab\u00a0Secrets of Midland Heights.\u00a0\u00bb He also was a regular for a handful of Season 2 episodes of sitcom \u00ab\u00a0Operation Petticoat\u00a0\u00bb in 1979. He also appeared in episodes of the soap operas \u00ab\u00a0One Life to Live,\u00a0\u00bb \u00ab\u00a0Days of Our Lives,\u00a0\u00bb \u00ab\u00a0As the World Turns,\u00a0\u00bb \u00ab\u00a0All My Children,\u00a0\u00bb \u00ab\u00a0General Hospital\u00a0\u00bb and \u00ab\u00a0Another World.\u00a0\u00bb On the big screen, his credits include \u00ab\u00a0The Lady in Red,\u00a0\u00bb \u00ab\u00a0Species II,\u00a0\u00bb \u00ab\u00a0Blue Christmas,\u00a0\u00bb \u00ab\u00a0The Sleepy Time Gal\u00a0\u00bb and \u00ab\u00a0Welcome to Academia.\u00a0\u00bb He also appeared on Broadway in \u00ab\u00a0A Few Good Men\u00a0\u00bb (1989-91) and \u00ab\u00a0Hamlet\u00a0\u00bb (1992). His stage career also included works by Anton Chekhov, Eugene O\u2019Neill and others, including an Outer Critics Circle Award for \u00ab\u00a0Never the Sinner\u00a0\u00bb in 1998. But Hogan\u2019s stock in trade was guesting on primetime TV series. After taking an aptitude test to determine whether that field indeed was his calling, his family said, the test results produced two words: the arts. \u00ab\u00a0That\u2019s when I gave acting a try,\u00a0\u00bb they quoted him as saying. Survivors include Mary Hogan, by his wife of 38 years; three children from a previous marriage to fine Shannon Hogan: Chris, Stephen and Jud; and grandchildren Susanna and Liam.
