The cast of ‘Star Trek: Prodigy’ debuted the teaser trailer for the animated kids’ series during the virtual Comic-Con@Home panel.<\/b>
\nCharting a brand new frontier for the \u201cStar Trek\u201d franchise, the cast and creators of Paramount Plus\u2019 \u201cStar Trek: Prodigy\u201d debuted the teaser trailer for the animated kids\u2019 series on Friday during the virtual Comic-Con@Home panel for the \u201cTrek\u201d TV universe. The trailer establishes that executive producers Kevin and Dan Hageman and director\/co-executive producer Ben Hibon are approaching the show \u2014 co-produced by Nickelodeon Animation Studio and CBS Eye Animation Productions \u2014 with a dramatic visual style that belies the series status as the first \u201cTrek\u201d series explicitly created for kids. \u201cIt\u2019s not designed just for kids,\u201d Hibon said during the panel. \u201cIt\u2019s just designed for lovers of animation, for lovers of sci-fi.\u201d \u201cWe wanted to be that little brother, little sister that smacked the bigger sibling and says don\u2019t underestimate us,\u201d added Dan Hageman. The story follows six young aliens \u2014 Dal (Brett Gray), Gwyn (Ella Purnell), Rok-Tahk (Rylee Alazraqui), Murf (Dee Bradley Baker), Zero (Angus Imrie) and Jankom Pog (Jason Mantzoukas) \u2014 who commandeer an abandoned Starfleet starship they know nothing about. Kate Mulgrew is reprising her performance as Capt. Kathryn Janeway from \u201cStar Trek: Voyager,\u201d albeit as an hologram who helps teach the new, young crew how to navigate the cosmos. \u201cShe\u2019s devastatingly beautiful,\u201d Mulgrew said in the panel with a smile. \u201cShe\u2019s going to help these kids. She\u2019s determined to help them get off this very, very dangerous and dark planet and into a much better place, a different galaxy.\u201d The trailer also unveils a first look at that starship, which is not, as the show\u2019s title might suggest, named \u201cProdigy.\u201d Instead, a close look reveals it\u2019s named the \u201cU.S.S. Protostar\u201d; even more curiously (and nerdily), its registry number starts with NX instead of NCC, indicating the \u201cProtostar\u201d is an experimental ship rather than a fully commissioned starship. How and why it came to be abandoned are mysteries that the show will no doubt explore. \u201cStar Trek: Prodigy\u201d will debut on Paramount Plus this fall. More to come.<\/p>\n
