Two \u2018Cobra Kai\u2019 stars have the same chronic condition. Here’s what we know.<\/b>

In the third season, the Miyagi-Do student covers up her scars but eventually feels confident enough to show off the markings. A post shared by \u2620\ufe0f Mary Mouser \u2620\ufe0f (@missmarymmouser) During a January 2021 interview with Entertainment Weekly, Mouser revealed that she identified with Sam\u2019s struggle to accept her scars. \u201cSam\u2019s got scars now, which I was also really proud to bare in the sense that, you know, I think that a lot of people live with, you know, with physical markers that at first, you don\u2019t know how to deal with them,\u201d said the actress. Mouser then explained that she \u201cwear[s] an insulin pump\u201d as she is \u201ctype 1 diabetic.\u201d \u201cWhen I first got my pump, I remember trying to get really creative about how to hide it,\u201d said the actress. \u201cI was like where can I put this thing, like, you know, what pocket can I invent to hide it in so no one will see.\u201d The 25-year-old went on to say that, like her character, she became more accepting of her physical differences. \u201cNow I\u2019m just like, \u2018yeah that\u2019s my insulin pump, you want to hear all about it, I\u2019ll tell you,\u2019\u201d said the actress. Mouser then noted that her co-star, Gianni DeCenzo, who plays Sam\u2019s Miyagi-Do teammate Demetri, also has type 1 diabetes. Earlier in the interview, she had noted that they co-starred on \u201ca show called \u2018Saint Francis\u2019\u201d when she was \u201c16 or 17.\u201d The actress explained that when she first met DeCenzo, she had been diagnosed with \u201cdiabetes for three or four years.\u201d However, he did not receive his diagnosis until after the \u201cSaint Francis\u201d pilot was filmed. \u201cI only found out that he was diabetic at crafty during season 1 of \u2018Cobra Kai\u2019 and I looked over and I was like, \u2018oh you drink Diet Cokes, I do that because I\u2019m type 1 diabetic.\u2019 And he was like, \u2018yeah me too.\u2019 And I was like, \u2018what!\u2019 So like out of all the people in the universe, he got diagnosed in that little window of time where we didn\u2019t know each other really that well, which I thought was really kind of cool,\u201d said the actress. A post shared by Gianni DeCenzo (@gianni_decenzo) In a separate January Entertainment Weekly interview, DeCenzo discussed his experience working alongside Mouser. He brought up the fact that he \u201cactually worked with her previously on a show,\u201d which \u201cdidn\u2019t get picked up.\u201d He went on to say that \u201cshe actually played [his] older sister in that.\u201d The actor then revealed that \u201cwhen [he] first went on [the] set\u201d of \u201cCobra Kai,\u201d he and Mouser initially \u201cdidn\u2019t recognize each other.\u201d He explained that his mother had to point the actress out to him. He proceeded to speak highly of his \u201cCobra Kai\u201d co-star. \u201cI\u2019ve had, you know, the pleasure of working with her in the past. She\u2019s great, but yeah, it\u2019s just really fun to be able to work with her,\u201d said the 19-year-old.
