Heather Mack was 18 when she was arrested in 2014, after her mother, Sheila von Wiese-Mack, was discovered dead in the trunk of a taxi parked near the St. Regis Bali Resort. She is expected to be released and deported back to the U.S. on Oct.29, a prison official told the Associated Press. The prison official, only known as Lili, said that Mack had received nearly three years\u2019 worth of sentence reductions. These reductions are often given to prisoners for major holidays. Mack also received a six-month remission of sentence from the Indonesian government during the country\u2019s Independence Day celebrations in August, ABC News reported. \u201cShe has shown to be a good person, she was entitled to the sentence reduction,\u201d Lili said. \u201cShe looked happy when she learned this… and began to pack up excitedly.\u201d Mack and her then-boyfriend, Tommy Schaefer, were arrested in August 2014 and convicted eight months later. Schafer is still imprisoned, serving an 18-year sentence. Shortly before her conviction, Mack gave birth to a daughter that she shares with Schaefer. Schaefer\u2019s cousin Robert Bibbs, pleaded guilty in 2016 for his involvement in planning the murder so that he could receive $50,000 that Mack was set to inherit. He was sentenced to nine years in prison. Due to COVID-19 guidelines, Mack has not seen her daughter in nearly two years. The 6-year-old has been staying with a foster family to avoid media attention. The mom and daughter will be reunited after her release.<\/p>\n
