\nFormer President Barack Obama, stumping for the Democratic candidate for governor in Virginia, accused Republicans of \u201csystematically\u201d trying to prevent Americans from voting, prompting a blistering response from the GOP challenger\u2019s camp. \u201c All across the country, Democrats are trying to make it easier to vote, not make it harder to vote, and push back on Republicans who are trying to systematically prevent ordinary citizens from making their voices heard,\u201d Obama said Saturday during a campaign speech in Richmond for Terry McAuliffe, Fox News reported. \u201cYou have to ask yourself, why is it Republicans don\u2019t want you to vote?\u201d he asked. McAuliffe, who served as governor from 2014 to 2018, is tied with Republican Glenn Youngkin as the race winds down to election day on Nov.2. Younkin\u2019s campaign responded to the former president\u2019s accusations on Sunday morning. \u201cGlenn has addressed this multiple times before Obama came to Virginia to bail Terry out, but instead of writing a story about the former p resident\u2019s false statements, the press is indulging Terry\u2019s fantasies and lies because he can\u2019t run on his failed record and radical vision for the future,\u201d Youngkin spokesperson Christian Martinez told Fox News. Obama didn\u2019t specifically cite any Republican election laws, but Democrats have been critical about legislation passed by GOP legislatures in Texas, Georgia, Florida, Arkansas. Obama is among a number of notable Democrats who have campaigned for McAuliffe, including Vice President Kamala Harris and first lady Jill Biden. President Biden is expected to campaign with him on Tuesday in Arlington. Youngkin has made the controversy over the teaching of critical race theory as one of his main campaign platforms, vowing to outlaw the curriculum if elected and saying he would go \u201con offense\u201d to ban abortion. \u201cWe all know education starts with curriculum,\u201d Youngkin said at a rally on Saturday. \u201cWe will teach all history, the good and the bad.\u201d \u201cAmerica has fabulous chapters and it\u2019s the greatest country in the world, but we also have some important chapters in our history, we must teach them,\u201d Youngkin said, noting that students will not be taught \u201cto view everything through a lens of race \u201d in his administration.<\/p>\n
