And Microsoft makes no exception, as the world’s number one software company has also tried to prepare its applications for the new M1 chip and therefore benefit from all the performance increases and the rest of the optimizations put together by Apple. Today, it’s the turn of OneDrive sync to make its debut on Apple Silicon, with Microsoft rolling out a new client that’s specifically aimed at the custom ARM chip. The new preview is also aimed at Windows on ARM, and Microsoft explains the release is currently happening for insiders. No ETA is available as to when everybody else would receive it. “We’re excited to announce that OneDrive sync for Windows on ARM and for Apple silicon is now available as a public preview! We know this has been a long awaited and highly requested feature, and we’re thrilled to make it available for early access. To enable the preview, you’ll need to make sure that you’ve joined the Insiders ring and enabled the preview in OneDrive Settings > About. We will be rolling out this feature to the Insiders ring over the next few days,” Microsoft announced. In the meantime, Apple itself is bragging about the performance of Apple Silicon, so it’s clearly good news that more developers, including Microsoft itself, are optimizing their software for the new chips. At the same time, the new OneDrive sync client also comes with notable improvements on Windows ARM platforms, so Microsoft is committed to refining the experience not only on Apple’s platform, but also on its very own, therefore paving the way for notable performance optimizations on all fronts.

Microsoft has released the client in preview with M1 support Ever since Apple launched Apple Silicon in November 2020, developers out there have been working around the clock on getting their software ready for the new custom chip built by Apple.
