While nobody quite knew what was going on with « Primetime », he has finally revealed that he was dealing with cancer.
In a very emotional and forthcoming press conference, Sanders revealed that he had a cancerous tumor on his bladder, which has been surgically removed. He also revealed that he is now cancer-free.
Despite the good news, Sanders also revealed that he did not alert his own sons about his diagnosis. In an attempt to protect their NFL futures, he chose instead to withhold the information so they could focus on landing with a professional team.
In a video of the press conference shared by NFL insider Ari Meirov, Sanders states:
« My sons, to this day, don’t know what transpired. I just told them that it was something with my foot. Again, because I wanted them to focus on making the team, and not focused on dad. »
More news: Dolphins Host Former First-Round Pick, Perfect Jonnu Smith Replacement
Sanders revealed that he was alerted to the cancer diagnosis on draft day, but chose not to inform Shilo and Shedeur, both of whom made NFL teams.
Shilo was signed by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers as an undrafted free agent, and Shedeur was drafted by the Cleveland Browns in the fifth-round of the 2025 NFL Draft.
Deion also stated that his sons still do not know about his cancer diagnosis, though it would be believed they are about to find out with the news of their father’s health being the top story.
Shilo and Shedeur might be upset at their father for withholding this kind of information, though they might also be relieved knowing that their father is also cancer-free.
Deion also stated that he knew he would return to coach the Buffaloes team, and it appears the dynamic coach is set on doing so. He also revealed that he lost 25 pounds during the time of treatment.
College football is close to starting up again, and Deion sounds as though he is ready to get back on the field to coach his team. Still, hearing such a diagnosis might also warrant the Buffaloes program to take things easy for the time being.
Either way, it is great to know that Deion is fully healthy, especially after a harrowing cancer diagnosis.

Deion Sanders revealed his scary medical condition was cancer, and he also revealed he lied to his sons about the diagnosis.
