Ty Burrell opened up about his surprising move from Hollywood to Salt Lake City, Utah, in a new interview published Sunday.<\/b>
\nOne big happy family.
\u201cModern Family\u201d star Ty Burrell, 57, recently admitted that he has \u201cno regrets\u201d ditching Hollywood for Utah following his success on the popular ABC sitcom.
\u201cIt\u2019s just been spectacular,\u201d he told People in an interview published Sunday, August 3.
\u201cWe moved here right after [\u201cModern Family\u201d] ended, and I don\u2019t have any regrets,\u201d Burrell added. \u201cIt\u2019s been lovely and a great place to raise the kids.\u201d
The \u201cBlack Hawk Down\u201d actor and his wife, Holly Burrell, 50, left Los Angeles for Salt Lake City in 2020 following the 11th and final season of \u201cModern Family.\u201d
Since the move, they have raised their teen daughters, Frances, 15, and Greta, 13, and have committed to a new \u201coutdoorsy\u201d way of life.
However, Burrell admitted that life in Utah is a big change compared to the more than ten years he spent living in Hollywood while filming \u201cModern Family.\u201d
\u201cMy parents weren\u2019t really those kinds of people,\u201d the \u201cOut of Practice\u201d star said regarding life in the mountains.
\u201cSo at first, when we moved here, it almost felt like cosplay, like we were pretending to be people who were outdoorsy, and now we really truly love it,\u201d he added.
Burrell, who starred as goofy real estate agent Phil Dunphy in all 11 seasons of \u201cModern Family,\u201d previously opened up about his wife and how they\u2019ve managed their 25-year marriage earlier this year.
\u201cThis is probably connected to the really old axiom of \u2018Don\u2019t go to bed angry,\u2019 but we force ourselves to talk about stuff,\u201d he told People in March. \u201cBoth of us make sure that if something\u2019s wrong, by the end of the night, we have at least had some discussion about it.\u201d
\u201cNeither one of us are silent treatment people, and I think that\u2019s a real benefit, because I think that can be really hard on a relationship, when you don\u2019t talk about things,\u201d Burrell said.
Much like real life, Burrell starred as a family man in \u201cModern Family.\u201d
He was married to Claire Dunphy (Julie Bowen), and the on-screen couple shared Haley (Sarah Hyland), Alex (Ariel Winter) and Luke (Nolan Gould).
Ed O\u2019Neill (Jay Pritchett), Sof\u00eda Vergara (Gloria Delgado-Pritchett), Rico Rodriguez (Manny), Jesse Tyler Ferguson (Mitchell Pritchett) and Eric Stonestreet (Cameron Tucker) rounded out the cast, and the show went on to win a total of 22 Primetime Emmy Awards throughout its 11-season run.
Although Burrell has largely stayed out of the spotlight since \u201cModern Family\u201d ended, he did break cover for a \u201cModern Family\u201d reunion at the 2024 SAG Awards after Ferguson twisted his arm to attend.
Plus, several fans of the show thought Burrell had passed away after he failed to appear for a previous reunion that the award-winning cast organized.
While the \u201cIncredible Hulk\u201d actor has mainly stuck to voiceover work in the years since leaving Hollywood, he did recently launch a podcast series, titled \u201cThe Good Life,\u201d that is loosely based on his own childhood.
However, Burrell has not ruled out an eventual return to the big or small screen following his new podcast project.
\u201cI\u2019m starting to get the itch again to perform,\u201d he told People. \u201cI\u2019ve mostly done voiceover work and things like this podcast. And if it accidentally works, I\u2019d love to do a second season.\u201d
