Trump’s Cabinet is not shying away from the president’s chatter about war in Latin America.<\/b>
\nSpeaking to the Sunday press shows after a surprise U.S. attack on Venezuela, Secretary of State Marco Rubio refused to rule out further strikes in the Caribbean.
Rubio, a Cuban American from Miami, would not eliminate the possibility of military action against Cuba while visiting NBC\u2018s \u201cMeet the Press.\u201d
President Donald Trump had threatened other Latin American countries following the airstrikes on Caracas and arrest of Venezuelan President Nicol\u00e1s Maduro. He told Colombian President Gustavo Petro to \u201cwatch his ass\u201d and floated US military involvement in Mexico and Cuba. Kristin Welker pressed Rubio directly on the statements and he declined to disavow them.
\u201cThe Cuban government is a huge problem,\u201d he said. \u201cI think they\u2019re in a lot of trouble, yes. I\u2019m not going to talk to you about what our future steps are going to be or what our policies are going to be. I don\u2019t think it\u2019s any mystery that we are not big fans of the Cuban regime.\u201d
Speaking to the press on Saturday, Trump said that an invasion of Cuba is \u201cgoing to be something we\u2019ll end up talking about.\u201d
\u201cCuba is a failing nation right now, very badly failing nation, and we want to help the people,\u201d he said.
Following up Trump\u2019s comments on the same stage, Rubio urged the press to take the president\u2019s words \u201cseriously.
\u201cCuba is a disaster.,\u201d he said. \u201cIf I lived in Havana and I was in the government I\u2019d be concerned.\u201d<\/p>\n
