\nNick Reiner had a newly shaved head while appearing in court for his arraignment on murder charges regarding the deaths of parents Rob Reiner and Michele Reiner.
A court room sketch showed Nick, 32, wearing a khaki jumpsuit to the Los Angeles arraignment on Wednesday, January 7, with his hands remaining cuffed through the hearing. Nick reportedly appeared on the verge of tears during the appearance.
Nick\u2019s arraignment was postponed in light of his former attorney, Alan Jackson, stepping down from the case. Nick will now be represented by Kimberly Greene, a criminal defense attorney with the Los Angeles County Office of the Public Defender.
\u201cI\u2019m legally and I\u2019m ethically prohibited from explaining all the reasons why, I know that\u2019s a question on everyone\u2019s mind,\u201d Jackson told reporters on Wednesday after announcing he would no longer be representing Nick. \u201cWe expect the public defender to step in, they\u2019ve already been appointed and very carefully protect Nick Reiner\u2019s interests as he moves forward through the system.\u201d
Jackson shared that he remained \u201cdeeply committed\u201d to Nick\u2019s \u201cbest interests\u201d moving forward.
\u201cIn fact, we know, we\u2019re not just convinced, we know that the legal process will reveal the true facts of the circumstances surrounding Nick\u2019s case,\u201d Jackson said. \u201cWhat we\u2019ve learned, and you can take this to the bank, is that, pursuant to the law in California, Nick Reiner is not guilty of murder.\u201d
Nick\u2019s next hearing is scheduled for Monday, February 23, where he will be arraigned.
\u201cThey have the utmost trust in the legal process and will not comment further on matters related to the legal proceedings,\u201d a spokesperson for the Reiner family told The New York Times on Wednesday.
Los Angeles District Attorney Nathan Hochman spoke to the press after the appearance, sharing that the district attorney\u2019s office would assist in a smooth transition for Nick after the change in his legal team. Hochman also explained that assistant head deputy of major crimes Habib Balian would be prosecuting the case and that he was \u201cfully confident\u201d in the team\u2019s ability to get justice for Rob and Michele.
\u201cWe are fully confident that a jury will convict Nick Reiner beyond a reasonable doubt of the brutal murders of his parents, Rob Reiner and Michele Singer Reiner, and do so unanimously,\u201d he concluded.
News broke in December 2025 that Nick was arrested for the murders of his parents. Rob and Michele were 78 and 70, respectively. He was later charged with two counts of first-degree murder and is currently being held without bail. Alongside Nick, Rob and Michele were survived by their children Jake, 34, and Romy, 28. Rob was also father to daughter Tracy, 61, whom he adopted while married to late ex-wife Penny Marshall.

They weren\u2019t just our parents; they were our best friends.\u201d
The statement concluded, \u201cWe are grateful for the outpouring of condolences, kindness, and support we have received not only from family and friends but people from all walks of life. We now ask for respect and privacy, for speculation to be tempered with compassion and humanity, and for our parents to be remembered for the incredible lives they lived and the love they gave.\u201d<\/p>\n
