\u00ab\u00a0The View\u00a0\u00bb co-hosts Sunny Hostin and Ana Navarro argue over Maduro capture and Greenland acquisition as Hostin calls military operation an illegal kidnapping.<\/b>
\nSince the capture of Venezuelan President Nicol\u00e1s Maduro, co-hosts of \u00ab\u00a0The View\u00a0\u00bb have been sharply divided, erupting in yet another argument on Friday.
The U.S. military and intelligence agencies worked together over the weekend to capture Maduro, in a mission called \u00ab\u00a0Operation Absolute Resolve.\u00a0\u00bb While Maduro\u2019s reign was controversial, and was viewed by many as a far-left dictatorship, critics accused the Trump administration of overstepping its authority. Co-host Sunny Hostin has argued multiple times that this was an illegal \u00ab\u00a0kidnapping\u00a0\u00bb by the U.S. government.
The conversation got heated when co-hosts on Friday juxtaposed Maduro\u2019s capture with President Donald Trump\u2019s push to acquire Greenland.
\u00ab\u00a0Greenland is not owned by the United States, nor should it be owned. It\u2019s not for sale\u00a0\u00bb, Hostin said.
\u00ab\u00a0Neither is Venezuela\u00a0\u00bb, co-host Joy Behar replied.
\u00ab\u00a0Neither is Venezuela, nor is its oil ours\u00a0\u00bb, Hostin said. \u00ab\u00a0Yet we went in, we took the president. I\u2019ve called it a \u2018kidnapping\u2019 because I believe that\u2019s what it is, and we took the head of state of Venezuela and take the oil, and are going to put \u2014 I think they\u2019re going to put the money in offshore accounts. So how is that okay, but Greenland isn\u2019t?\u00a0\u00bb
Navarro objected to the comparison between toppling Maduro and acquiring Greenland, saying, \u00ab\u00a0Let\u2019s look at some facts. Venezuela is a dictatorship. Greenland is not. Denmark is our ally. Greenland is our ally. We have military bases and operations in Greenland. Denmark is part of NATO as we are, so we are part of one big alliance. Venezuela is a place where they kill, jail, and torture the opposition, where they repress human rights.\u00a0\u00bb
\u00ab\u00a0My point is, we cannot make an equivalency between Greenland and Venezuela. So let\u2019s just not\u00a0\u00bb, Navarro said.
After an intense back and forth about how the United States should handle Venezuela going forward and questions of legality, and Greenland, Navarro offered a final point.
While she said it is a legitimate question, theoretically, to question the legality of Maduro\u2019s capture, at this stage it is ultimately a moot point.
\u00ab\u00a0The law should never be a moot point\u00a0\u00bb, Hostin retorted.
\u00ab\u00a0Well \u2026 Sunny, it\u2019s theoretical. We already plucked the guy out, so right now we have invested billions of dollars and months \u2014 \u00a0\u00bb Navarro began.
When Hostin argued this was merely continuing \u00ab\u00a0the crime\u00a0\u00bb, Navarro challenged her directly.
\u00ab\u00a0Well what do you think we should do \u2014 return him to Venezuela?\u00a0\u00bb Navarro asked. \u00ab\u00a0Return him? Is that what you think we should do?\u00a0\u00bb
When Hostin replied that Maduro should instead be tried in the International Criminal Court, multiple co-hosts argued that this group does not consistently enforce international law.<\/p>\n
