A Georgia official said the county was a longtime \u00ab\u00a0target\u00a0\u00bb for Trump.<\/b>
\nLawmakers and state officials in Georgia are sounding off in the wake of a Wednesday FBI raid on an Atlanta-area election center.
The raid was launched in hopes of finding documentation and records related to the 2020 election. Sen. Jon Ossoff, D-Ga., called a \u201csore loser\u2019s crusade\u201d by President Donald Trump.
\u201cFrom Minnesota to Georgia, on display to the whole world is a President spiraling out of control, wielding federal law enforcement as an unaccountable instrument of personal power and revenge,\u201d Ossoff said.
Fulton County Commission Chair Robb Pitts said he was \u201cnot surprised\u201d that the center was raided. \u201cWe\u2019ve known all along that Fulton County has been a target for obvious reasons,\u201d Pitts said at a Wednesday press conference, calling the prior elections \u201clegal\u201d and \u201cfair.\u201d
Pitts added that the counted votes were \u201csecure\u201d in the county\u2019s possession, but he after their seizure by the FBI could \u201cno longer satisfy \u2026 that those ballots are still secure.\u201d
Fulton County Democratic Commissioner Mo Ivory called the raid \u201can assault on voters.\u201d
\u201cIf our president wants to bring in the forces, he will,\u201d Ivory said at a Wednesday press conference. \u201cThis is the beginning of the chaos in 2026 that is about to ensue,\u201d she said.
Georgia Republican Party Chairman Josh McKoon praised the raid, calling it \u201canother step toward truth and accountability,\u201d and saying US elections are \u201cbroken.\u201d
\u201cThe FBI\u2019s execution of a search warrant at the Fulton County Election Hub is long overdue\u2014Georgians have waited years for real answers about what happened in 2020,\u201d McKoon told Atlanta\u2019s 11 Alive.
The center has been the nucleus of a right-wing conspiracy that the 2020 election was rigged against Trump. An infamous call took place in 2020 between Trump and Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger, in which Trump asked for \u201conly\u201d 11,000 votes. Fellas, I need 11,000 votes. Give me a break,\u201d Trump said on the call.<\/p>\n
