The latest row over the Dalai Lama’s comment comes at a time when his impending visit to the disputed region of Arunachal Pradesh has stroked tensions between India and China. Beijing has warned New Delhi that the visit may cast fresh clouds over their bilateral relationship.\u00a0\u00a0
The globetrotting Tibetan leader gave the high-profile interview to Oliver at the Indian town of Dharamsala, where he has been residing in exile for more than five decades now. The 81-year-old monk was expectedly quizzed over Chinese leadership, to which he reacted in a usual sarcastic way. This is the standard practice that he usually follows whenever he is confronted with question on China.
\u00ab\u00a0Our brain usually, you see, [has] the ability to create common sense. The Chinese hardliners, in their brains, that part of the brain is missing,\u00a0\u00bb the controversial monk said. The scathing reply was in response to Oliver’s question about whether he worries that Beijing would appoint its own Dalai Lama.
The question was asked amid mounting speculations that Beijing may appoint a new Dalai Lama, who favors the ruling communist party, after the current and 14 th Dalai Lama dies.
China shares an acrimonious relationship with 81-year-old monk, who fled the country in 1959 after leading a failed uprising. Beijing views the noble peace prize winner as a dangerous separatist leader, whose only aim is to separate Tibet from Mainland China.
Beijing unambiguously maintains that Tibet is an integral part of China and so is the disputed region of Arunachal Pradesh, which it considers to be part of Southern Tibet.<\/p>\n
