After nearly a month of beta testing, OnePlus has announced that it has begun rolling out the first official over-the-air update of OxygenOS 5.0 based on Android Oreo for the OnePlus 5.
Towards the end of November, OnePlus started rolling out beta builds of OxygenOS 5.0 based on Android 8.0 Oreo. The final update was expected to be ready by 2018, but the company has announced its general availability ahead of schedule just the way it did with the Nougat update last year.
In addition to the Android Oreo features, there are other enhancements that are being released in the over-the-air (OTA) OxygenOS update, which are as follows:
The update does not seem to include the Face Unlock feature that is expected to arrive for the OnePlus 5, but given that it wasn’t confirmed to launch just un til yesterday, it could still be a patient wait before we see a release.
It might take some time till the OxygenOS 5.0 OTA notification shows up on your device since rollouts are generally done in phases as well as in specific regions. The complete update package for manual installation is available for download from within the announcement post linked below, however, there have been a few reports about users losing their data during the update and other issues related to Oreo on the OnePlus subreddit, so it would perhaps be best to back up your data and wait for the patch as it rolls out.
