Never have the Mega Millions and Powerball jackpots each been worth more than $445 million at the same time until now.
Friday night’s Mega Millions jackpot is worth at least $445 million and is the fourth-largest in the history of the game.
Combine it with Saturday night’s Powerball drawing — which is worth at least $550 million — and we’re looking at nearly $1 billion in jackpots for the weekend. The Powerball jackpot is already the sixth-largest in the history of that game as well.
Both jackpots could rise in value prior to the drawings as lottery players turn out to buy tickets.
Neither jackpot has been won since October, which has led to the humongous jackpots in both games.
On Oct. 13, Michigan residents Kevin and Stephanie Blake won $21 million in the Mega Millions after splitting half of the $42 million jackpot.
Twelve days later, a lottery partnership in Louisiana won the $192 million Powerball jackpot, marking the last time either game has seen a winner.
Dozens of players have come within one number of winning either jackpot in that time, but no one has been able to win it all.
The last time both jackpots were so high at the same time came in August 2017, when both topped $350 million for the first time.
