Taiwanese smartphone brand HTC has announced two new mid-range smartphones: HTC Desire 12 and HTC Desire 12+. These devices feature 5.5-inch HD+ and 6-inch Full HD+ screens with 18:9 aspect ratio, and an attractive, liquid-surface design. However, they fall short in one area. They use mediocre processors from MediaTek and Qualcomm, respectively. Let us have a look at the features, specifications, and pricing of the phones.
The HTC Desire 12 and the HTC Desire 12+ will be available for purchase in Black, Silver, Purple and Gold colour variants. The Desire 12 is priced at EUR 200 (approximately, Rs. 16,031) in Europe, while Desire 12+ will retail for EUR 250 (approximately, Rs. 20,044).
These smartphones will be available in European markets starting April 2018. For now, HTC hasn’t revealed any details about the availability or pricing for the Indian market. We suggest you to stay tuned to our website if you want to know its Indian pricing.
The HTC Desire features a 5.5-inch IPS LCD screen with HD+ resolution (1440×720 pixels), 18:9 aspect ratio, and 2.5D curved glass protection. The phone uses the MediaTek MT6739 SoC, consisting of a 1.5GHz quad-core 64-bit CPU and PowerVR Rogue GE8100 GPU. The device will be available in two variants: 2GB RAM+16GB storage and 3GB RAM+32GB storage. Both variants support expandable storage (up to 2TB via microSD card) and run Android 7.0 Nougat, which was released way back in 2016.
In terms of imaging, the HTC Desire 12 features a 13MP rear-facing camera with autofocus, ƒ/2.2 aperture and 1080p video recording. There’s a 5MP front-facing camera with fixed-focus lens and ƒ/2.4 aperture. The dual-SIM smartphone uses a rear-facing fingerprint reader and comes packed with a relatively smaller, 2730mAh battery and even lacks support for faster charging rates.
The HTC Desire 12+ features a 6-inch IPS LCD screen with HD+ resolution (1440×720 pixels), 18:9 aspect ratio, and 2.5D curved glass protection. Instead of MediaTek SoC, the Desire 12+ uses the Qualcomm Snapdragon 450 chipset with 1.8GHz octa-core CPU and Adreno 506 GPU. The smartphone comes packed with 3GB of RAM, 32GB of internal storage, and supports expandable storage (up to 2TB via microSD card).
Interestingly, the Desire 12+ runs Android 8.0 Oreo operating system out of the box. The company uses the HTC Sense UI software on top of Oreo. It features the same rear-facing 13MP camera sensor at the rear as that of the Desire 12, but adds a 2MP secondary sensor for achieving background blur effect. At the front, the phone is equipped with an 8MP BSI camera sensor with ƒ/2.0 aperture. That’s not all, the front camera is also accompanied by an LED flash for brighter selfies.
