The day is finally here when OnePlus’ next flagship smartphone will be launched. Months after the phone started leaking and weeks after the company started teasing he device, the OnePlus 6 will be officially unveiled and launched worldwide today. The OnePlus 6 launch event will happen in London, and then the company will have follow-up launch events in China as well as in India tomorrow. The launch event in China will start at 10:00 AM CST (7:30 AM IST), while the Indian launch in Mumbai will start at 3:00 PM IST.
The Chinese smartphone brand will allow members of its community and fans to attend the launch events, and it started selling the tickets to the launch event. The tickets were made available through OnePlus’ official website. Fans attending the launch event will get to use the phone in the experience zone. They will also receive a OnePlus Tote Bag, OnePlus Notebook, a cash cannon, and a OnePlus voucher worth Rs. 999. The voucher can be used while purchasing either a OnePlus smartphone or any of the accessories.
If you’re not attending the OnePlus 6 launch event, you can still catch up with the launch of the smartphone through a live video stream that’s embedded below. It will start at 5 PM BST (9:30 PM IST) on May 16,2018.
The OnePlus 6 is expected to sport a 6.28-inch Optic AMOLED screen with Full HD+ resolution, 19:9 aspect ratio and a display cutout for the earpiece and sensors. The phone’s screen will be covered by a Gorilla Glass 5 panel. The phone will run Android 8.1 Oreo based OxygenOS interface, and use the Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 processor. There will be 6GB RAM and 8GB RAM variants of the device. The 8GB RAM variant could feature 128GB or 256GB ROM, while the 6GB RAM variant could feature 64GB ROM. In classic OnePlus fashion, the phone won’t have a microSD card slot for storage expansion.
The OnePlus 6 will continue the legacy of the OnePlus 5 and the OnePlus 5T by using a dual-camera setup at the rear, consisting 16MP primary sensor and 20MP secondary sensor. It is expected to feature dual-pixel phase-detection autofocus, dual-tone LED flash, OIS, and 4K video recording. The selfie camera on the phone is expected to use a 16MP sensor with a fixed-focus lens. The OnePlus 6 will use a glass-and-metal sandwich design which will be resistant to dust and water. It will have rear-mounted fingerprint reader, and it is expected that it will also be compatible with wireless charging. The phone is expected to come equipped with a 3300mAh battery with support for Dash Charge v2.0.
The OnePlus 6 price in India is being rumoured to be Rs. 36,999 for the 6GB RAM variant, while the price of the 8GB RAM variant could be Rs. 39,999. It will go on sale starting May 21,2018 for Amazon Prime members, through Amazon.in website as a part of the Early Access Sale programme. The phone will also be available through OnePlus.in and OnePlus Experience Store.
Those who are not Amazon Prime members will only be able to buy the phone starting May 22,2018. OnePlus fans can purchase the phone through pop-up events that will be held in eight cities – Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, Chennai, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Mumbai, New Delhi, and Pune – across India on May 21 and 22.
OnePlus is offering a cashback of Rs. 2,000 on buying the OnePlus 6 in the first week of sale if a purchase is made through SBI credit or debit card. Buyers will also get an option to use interest-free EMI plan and they will get free device insurance through Servify. The no-cost EMI will only be 3-month long, though, and will be available for cards from most popular banks in India. Idea subscribers can get Rs. 2,000 cashback and device insurance. Gift card worth Rs. 250 for Amazon Prime Video users and discounts up to Rs. 500 on Amazon Kindle will also be available.
