Will media take comedian’s comments out of context like they did with Alex Jones? Unlikely
A new painting from comedian Jim Carrey is calling for President Donald Trump to be burned at the stake – “figuratively speaking.”
The Hollywood actor, who regularly attacks the Trump administration and conservatives, released the image on Twitter Wednesday.
Using the hashtag #BURNTHEWITCH, Carrey criticized the president for calling the recent criminal case against former Trump campaign manager Paul Manafort a witch hunt.
“A large number of counts, ten, could not even be decided in the Paul Manafort case. Witch Hunt!” the president tweeted Wednesday.
Carrey’s tweet also encouraged his followers to register to vote at the vote.gov website.
The Ace Ventura star’s paintings have regularly stirred controversy in recent months.
An image from Carrey of White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders drew criticism in March for what many say was an attack on Sanders’ physical appearance.
Carrey also attacked Alex Jones and Fox News host Sean Hannity in a painting released in April.
Carrey, who undoubtedly has a right as an American to use art as a form of protest, will unlikely be accused of actually calling for violence as was seen with Alex Jones this month when his comments were taken out of context.
Jones has since offered a $1 million reward to anyone who can prove he called for using “battle rifles” against the media – a patently false claim that resulted in his Twitter account being banned for seven days.
