It doesn’t sound like we’ll be getting a Shadow of the Tomb Raider Switch port any time soon. Maybe, just maybe, however, we’ll see Tomb Raider on the Switch some day.
We aren’t too far away from the Shadow of the Tomb Raider release date. Lara Croft’s latest adventure is said to be her darkest yet. The game sees Lara Croft head into the jungles of Mayan Latin America. During her search for a Mayan relic, she must try and halt the end of the world, which she somehow managed to set off. Will we see Shadow of the Tomb Raider Switch? I wouldn’t get your hopes up.
Shadow of the Tomb Raider is set to release on PS4, Xbox One and PC on September 14. We can’t wait to return to Lara’s story, but people have been wondering if there was any chance for a Switch version of the game. Sadly, it doesn’t look likely. Speaking to Gamespot, Heath Smith (Eidos Montreal lead game designer) broke the news. When asked whether or not we’ll ever see a Switch port of the game, Smith simply said that there are “no plans.”
While this may seem disappointing, realistically, it would take months to get a Switch version of a game this big and detailed up and running. Although there aren’t any plans for Shadow of the Tomb Raider Switch, there may be some hope. Smith is “personally a big fan” of the Switch. He simply argued that “it wasn’t the right fit.” Hopefully, we may see Tomb Raider on Switch at some point. There’s no reason the 2013 reboot wouldn’t work on the console. A port of that would go down smooth.
Despite the lack of a Switch version, we found much to be excited about with Shadow of the Tomb Raider. Indeed, in our latest hands-on preview, we found the story to be interesting. Lara looks to be receiving a slightly deeper reading this time around, at least.
Shadow of the Tomb Raider releases on PS4, Xbox One and PC September 14.
