A new report reveals that both the 5.8-inch and 6.5-inch iPhones will be called iPhone XS
Rumours come to an end. On Thursday night, Apple sent out a media invite for the iPhone 2018 launch on September 12 at the Steve Jobs Theatre. Soon after the invite was out, an image showing the upcoming 5.8-inch and 6.5-inch iPhones leaked online. The picture not only reveals the design of the two phones but also confirms that both the iPhones will come in gold colour.
Apple is expected to launch three iPhones even this year. Until now, rumours claimed that one of the iPhones will be the successor to the last year’s iPhone X. This will be the iPhone XS. The second iPhone and the high-end variant of the three iPhones launching this year will be an upgraded version of the iPhone X. This is said to be the iPhone XS Plus. And lastly, the most anticipated iPhone of the year. The 6.1-inch LCD display iPhone. This will be the most affordable iPhone launched in a while now. Some rumours say this could be the iPhone SE 2, while some say it will be the successor to the iPhone 8 and hence will be called the iPhone 9. The final names of all the three iPhones are yet to be revealed by Apple.
But now, a new report coming from 9to5Mac reveals that both the 5.8-inch and 6.5-inch iPhones will be called iPhone XS. This means, there’s no iPhone XS Plus. Apparently, Apple will launch the iPhone XS in two variants. The base model will come with a 5.8-inch screen, while the top-end model will boast off a massive 6.5-inch screen, the report claims. Both the 5.8-inch and 6.5-inch iPhones will be coming with OLED displays just as the iPhone X.
Almost everything has already been leaked about these upcoming iPhones. Both the phones will come with the same design, notched display, glass design, Face ID, Wireless charging, and edge-to-edge display. The only difference that the two iPhones will have will be the screen size, battery, RAM and storage department. It is also said that the 5.8-inch iPhone will come only with single SIM support, while the 6.5-inch iPhone will be available in two variants — one with single SIM slot and the other one with dual SIM tray. The body of both the iPhones will be mostly glass but the frame will use stainless steel.
Earlier this week analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, who is often accurate in his Apple predictions, revealed the specs and the pricing details of both the iPhones. He said that the 5.8-inch iPhone will come with dual 12-megapixel cameras on the back, 4GB RAM, three storage models — 64GB, 256GB and 512GB and battery with a capacity between 2600mAh and 2700mAh. The iPhone X was launched for $1000, but the successor to it, aka the iPhone XS, is expected to come with a price of around $800, which is almost $200 less.
Meanwhile, the 6.1-inch iPhone will be the costliest phone of the three iPhones launching this year. The phone will be powered by an A12 processor, similar to the one inside the iPhone XS and come with 4GB RAM and in three storage variants — 64GB, 256GB and 512GB. It will come with a battery that has capacity between 3300mAh and 3400mAh. On the camera front, the 6.5-inch iPhone will also come with dual 12-megapixel back cameras. Kuo suggests that the 6.5-inch iPhone will come with a starting price of $900 (roughly around Rs 63,000).
At the September 12 event, Apple alongside the three iPhones is also expected to unveil the new Apple Watch Series 4.
