Ubisoft reveals that Assassin’s Creed Odyssey’s launch sales outperformed its predecessors of this gen and could become one of the top performing titles in the series.
Assassin’s Creed Odyssey is Ubisoft’s latest entry in the long-standing franchise that began back in 2007. After the game’s release earlier this month, Assassin’s Creed Odyssey now holds the title of having the best launch in the series for this console generation, effectively outperforming some of its most recent predecessors, Origins, Syndicate, and Unity.
This milestone was announced by developer Ubisoft, with the company attributing Assassin’s Creed Odyssey’s strong sales from high review scores and positive reception from players. Unfortunately, the studio did not disclose a specific sales figure, but it has been confirmed that Odyssey managed to sell twice as fast as Assassin’s Creed Syndicate after a few days since the game was released.
“We are incredibly proud of what the team accomplished with Assassin’s Creed Odyssey, and humbled by the amazing reception from critics and players,” said Geoffroy Sardin, Ubisoft’s SVP of sales and marketing. “Based on the quality of the game and the very encouraging reactions from players, we expect Odyssey to be one of the top performing Assassin’s Creed games of all-time.”
Of course, the successful launch of Assassin’s Creed Odyssey is just the beginning, as Ubisoft has planned tons of extra content to add to the game in the future. As previously mentioned by the studio, fans shouldn’t expect any new installment in the series in 2019 as it is assumed that Ubisoft wants to focus on developing extra content for Odyssey, which will include an upcoming Season Pass that comprises of two episodic story arcs, “Legacy of the First Blade,” set to release in December, and “The Fate of Atlantis” in spring 2019.
Moreover, a New Game Plus mode, which will be a first in the franchise, is also included in Ubisoft’s pipeline for Assassin’s Creed Odyssey. This new mode will allow players who have beaten the game once to keep previously unlocked skills when starting a new campaign. This feature was confirmed by creative director Jonathan Dumont, but did not specify on when it will be added.
Assassin’s Creed Odyssey is now available for the PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
