Alex Iafallo tied the game for the Kings at 15:37 of the third period, but the Bruins scored two late goals.
LOS ANGELES – Kings captain Anze Kopitar was really ticked. So much so that he broke his stick over the crossbar after a puck shot by Boston’s Charlie McAvoy hit his skate and went into the net for a tie-breaking goal at 18:47 of the third period.
Patrice Bergeron got another one past Kings goalie Jack Campbell at 19:23, and the Bruins defeated the Kings 4-2 on Saturday night before 18,230 at Staples Center.
Boston (34-17-8,76 points) has now won five consecutive games and seven of eight.
The Kings (23-29-6,52 points) have lost four in a row and remain eight points out of a playoff spot.
Boston goalie Tuukka Rask may have been the difference. He made 23 saves, one of the spectacular variety.
Alex Iafallo tied the game 2-2 for the Kings at the 15:37 mark of the third period. Not long after, at 16:00, the Kings went on the power-play but didn’t generate a thing. That’s one reason why Kopitar was so angry.
The Kings were 1-for-5 on the power-play, and Kopitar said he liked what he saw on the power-play goal scored by Ilya Kovalchuk that tied the game 1-1 at 10:37 of the second period. But…
“Yeah, I mean, the first power-plays we had zone time,” Kopitar said.
