Caleb Williams Sought Interesting Concessions From Bears

First overall draft pick is in camp with the Chicago Bears after signing with terms from the rookie scale. But he showed he’s willing to think outside the box.
Caleb Williams agreed to a deal with the Bears at the rookie scale but that doesn’t mean he was excited about the boilerplate contract. According from two reports, Williams unsuccessfully sought for some interesting concessions after being selected with the first pick of the draft.
Williams wanted to become the first rookie to land a no-trade clause in his contract, according to NFL.com’s Tom Pelissero. Some quarterbacks, including the Cowboys’ Dak Prescott, have had no-trade clauses including in their deals. But none of those were rookies.
Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk reported that Williams also sought an assurance that the Bears would not use a franchise tag to keep him beyond his fifth season.
His deal is for $39.49 million over four years, with a $25.5 million bonus, and can be extended to five years by using the standard fifth-year option for first-round picks.
