Theater fans will enjoy this campy musical rom-com starring Corey Cott and Heather Hemmens.
The Hallmark Channel is jazzing up its Countdown to Christmas holiday streaming slate with musical rom-com, The Snow Must Go On. The movie stars real-life Broadway talent Corey Cott as a struggling musical theater performer in New York City who desperately chases the feelings and accolades of his previous on-stage star turns and successes. But when his super off-Broadway show is a flop, and everything in his life seems to be going wrong, he resolves to spend December with his sister (Samantha Kendrick) and niece Kaelyn Yoon-Macrae) upstate. While there, he gets roped into directing his niece’s holiday-themed high school musical alongside a lovely guidance counselor (Heather Hemmens) who helps open his mind and heart in ways he never expected.
The Gist: Isaiah Heyward (Corey Cott) is a musical theater performer who has gone from starring in a successful Broadway show to writing, producing, directing, and starring in a flop of an off-off-off-off-off Broadway one-man show he calls “Frost/Blitzen.” Only three people attend his self-made musical, and two of them are his own sister, Jess (Samantha Kendrick), and niece, Aurora (Kaelyn Yoon-Macrae), who suggest that he get away from the rat race of New York City to spend the holidays with them. Isaiah tells them that his decision to join them hinges on a big audition he’s attending the next day for a promising new show led by big-time Broadway producer, Cindy Santos (Stephanie Sy). Unfortunately, the audition ends early for the day before he gets the chance to show Cindy his skills, and to add insult to injury, Isaiah is fired from his day job as a professional caroler. With nothing to do and no idea what direction his life and work are heading, Isaiah heads upstate to spend December with Jess and Aurora in their town, Hancock.
Upon arrival, Isaiah learns a lot about himself and starts realizing that the dogged pursuit of his individual dreams and goals made him miss some of his friends’ and family’s major life events and milestones. Eager to make up for lost time with her uncle and share his talents with others, Aurora ropes Isaiah into directing her high school’s half-finished original musical, “Randolph the Christmas Elk,” which he works to write, cast, and put together in time for the Christmas Eve performance with the help of school guidance counselor, Lilly-Anne Brigente (Heather Hemmens). Although Isaiah initially sees the show as a chance to selfishly cast himself as the lead role and get scouted for Broadway after realizing that a shy cast member (Emily Leung) is the daughter of producer Cindy, Lilly-Anne and the students help Isaiah see the error of his ways and slowly change to consider a different life path full of family, romance, and career fulfilment unlike anything he has experienced before.
