\nFox News host\u00a0Ainsley Earhardt\u00a0incorrectly said Thursday that the U. S. defeated «communist Japan» in World War II as she defended\u00a0America’s greatness.
«We defeated communist Japan,» Earhardt said on «Fox & Friends,» responding to New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo (D) saying America «was never that great» a day prior. Japan has never been communist and was under imperial rule during World War II.
«We\u2019re the most generous country in all of the world,» she said. «Yes, we have our faults, but because of this country, this world is definitely a better place. We are great.»
Fellow «Fox\u00a0& Friends» host Steve Doocy appeared to correct Earhardt by saying that the U. S. has defeated «communism and Japan and so many other things as well.»
«We will reach greatness when discrimination and stereotyping against women, 51 percent of our population, is gone,» he said. «And every woman\u2019s full potential is realized and unleashed and every woman is making her full contribution. When that happens, this nation is going to be taken even higher.»
Cuomo’s office walked back the remark shortly after, saying that Cuomo believes «America is great and that her full greatness will be fully realized when every man, woman, and child has full equality.\u201d
Trump seized on the comment later that night, saying that Cuomo was having a «total meltdown» in a late-night tweet.
Cuomo is currently running for reelection and is in a primary contest with Cynthia Nixon, who is challenging Cuomo from the left.<\/p>\n
