Ricky Jay, a magician and character actor known for his roles in such films as \u201cBoogie Nights has died.<\/b>
\nRicky Jay, a magician and character actor known for his roles in such films as \u201cBoogie Nights,\u201d \u201cMagnolia,\u201d \u201cTomorrow Never Dies\u201d and \u201cThe Spanish Prisoner,\u201d has died. He was 72.
\u201cI am sorry to share that my remarkable friend, teacher, collaborator and coconspirator is gone,\u201d tweeted Michael Weber, Jay\u2019s partner in the Deceptive Practices consulting firm, which advises movie, TV and theater projects on various illusions and magic secrets during their productions. Among the films they consulted on were \u201cThe Prestige,\u201d \u201cThe Illusionist\u201d and \u201cOceans Thirteen.\u201d
He was also credited as \u201cIllusion Wheelchair Designer\u201d for \u201cForrest Gump\u201d \u2014 it was Jay and CGI specialists who made it appear as if Gary Sinise\u2019s wheelchair-bound character Lt. Dan was a double-amputee.
In addition to guest starring roles in numerous TV shows, including \u201cDeadwood,\u201d \u201cLie to Me,\u201d Flashforward\u201d and \u201cThe X-Files,\u201d Jay was an accomplished magician and an expert card technician, and is listed in the Guiness Book of World Records for throwing a playing card 190-feet at 90 mph.
