«Cheney is going to take Poppins down. That’s a promise,» director Adam McKay says jokingly of the film’s Golden Globe nominations<\/b>
\n\u201cVice\u201d director Adam McKay is a fan of many of the films among this year\u2019s Golden Globes nominees, but he has embraced Dick Cheney\u2019s ruthlessly competitive spirit when it came to a movie that his is up against: \u201cMary Poppins Returns.\u201d
\u201cWe\u2019re coming for it. We\u2019re gonna take it down. Cheney is going to take Poppins down. That\u2019s a promise. I\u2019ll fight dirty. I\u2019ll get in the press. I\u2019ll spread rumors. Usually, with awards, it\u2019s, \u2018Hey, it\u2019s good for everyone! It\u2019s all art!\u2019 Not in this case,\u201d McKay jokingly told TheWrap. \u201cWe ain\u2019t no musical. We ain\u2019t singing no songs. We\u2019re just taking care of business.\u201d
McKay was enjoying a chicken sandwich in London when the nominees were announced. McKay\u2019s Cheney biopic scored six nominations to lead the field, including in Best Motion Picture \u2013 Musical or Comedy, and two for McKay for Best Director and Best Screenplay. Kieran Culkin, who stars on the HBO show \u201cSuccession,\u201d which McKay produces, scored a nomination as well.

\u201cThey just kept coming. Woah! This is getting really good,\u201d McKay recalled as he watched the nominations live. \u201cI was especially excited to see them honor the actors so much because I agree with them. I think they did special, mind-blowing work in this.\u201d
\u201cVice,\u201d McKay\u2019s follow-up to \u201cThe Big Short,\u201d is a political drama that chronicles Cheney\u2019s time as vice president of the United States and the behind-the-scenes power that he exerted over the White House and the country.
\u201cWe all knew he had done some of that, of course, that\u2019s no surprise. But when we started seeing the detail, I started thinking, wait a minute, this guy is a figure we know about, but it goes much deeper than we think,\u201d McKay said. \u201cThere was not a clean sense of history or story about how we got where we\u2019re at right now, or forget America, but about how the world got to where it\u2019s at right now.\u201d
McKay\u2019s \u201cVice\u201d starring Christian Bale as Dick Cheney, along with Amy Adams, Steve Carell and Sam Rockwell. It opens in theaters on Dec. 25.<\/p>\n
