The first games to come from this promotion are Subnautica, an underwater survival game, and the platforming challenge Super Meat Boy.
The point behind the Epic Games store is to allow less-prolific developers and indie studios to get more of the profits from their sales. While most developers only get 70 percent of their profits back from online stores like Steam, Epic Games aims to give them back 88 percent, keeping the rest for overhead.
To get to the games however, you couldn’t find two games that are farther apart than Subnautica and Super Meat Boy. Subnautica is a somewhat leisurely-paced yet still somewhat unsettling game where players have to survive on a planet that’s covered almost entirely by water, while at the same time uncovering what happened to the civilization that used to be there. Fitting with the ocean setting, it includes a large number of large and terrifying sea creatures. It will be available from December 14 to December 27.
The next game will be Super Meat Boy, a highly challenging platform game where you play the titular meat boy as he attempts to rescue his girlfriend from the evil Dr. Fetus. The game might drive you to frustration, or even straight up insane, but hopefully you’ll be able to relish the challenge instead if you’re getting tired of Mario or other platformer games like it. Super Meat Boy will be available from December 28 to January 10.
Epic will be funding every single one of these free Epic Games store games, so you’ll be able to come back and see a new one available every two weeks for the entirety of next year and the rest of this year. Just be sure to keep checking back to see what other games come out next.

Two free Epic Games store games are now available for two weeks each to celebrate the store’s launch, so you can pick up Subnautica or Super Meat Boy.
