\nElla Hunt is taking on New York \u2014 and she\u2019s ready to face the music.
The British actress recently moved to Brooklyn Heights and is starring in her first big-screen film, the recently released \u201cAnna and the Apocalypse,\u201d a quirky tale about a zombie invasion during Christmas, which currently has an 82 percent rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
Hunt, 20, plays the titular high-school senior who has to slash legions of the undead in order to make it out alive\u2026 while singing. Improbably, the buzzy movie is a musical.
She liked the fact that her character isn\u2019t your typical damsel in distress.
\u201c[Anna] goes from a woman who\u2019s unsure of herself to somebody who can survive a zombie apocalypse,\u201d Hunt said. \u201cWe\u2019re both very aspirational.\u201d
Indeed, her glamorous new career is a far cry from her former rural country life in Devon, England. She comes from a family of creatives: Hunt\u2019s mom is a sculptor and her father is an art dealer. Even as a little girl, she knew she wanted to go into acting.
\u201cFrom a very young age I was dancing around the house putting on performances, and it was pretty clear what I wanted to do,\u201d she said.
At age 11 she was scouted by an agent during one of her school plays, and she has since gone on to supporting roles in films like \u201cLes Mis\u00e9rables\u201d and \u201cIntruders.\u201d
She had an \u201cintense\u201d time trying to balance her schoolwork and acting.
\u201cAt 15 I was meeting with casting directors. One day I was filming opposite Ben Kingsley and the next day I was taking the GCSE,\u201d she said, referring to the test that British high schoolers have to tak to go on to college.
She\u2019s still juggling. Hunt has been busy promoting the film and shooting a TV series, which leaves her little time to enjoy New York City.
\u201cThere\u2019s just so many different people living in this relatively tiny space,\u201d she said.
But she has taken up yoga since moving here, which she admitted is very \u201cmillennial\u201d of her.
While the actress is single, she has caught the eye of Chanel. The French fashion house has been dressing Hunt for most of her red-carpet appearances.
Zombies and all, she said, \u201cit\u2019s a total dream come true.\u201d<\/p>\n
