This morning, pop icon Janet Jackson confirmed some news her fans had been waiting for. After more than three decades in the music industry, Jackson will be inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. This recognition is especially sweet after she was blacklisted from the entertainment industry in 2004 following an unfortunate incident during the XXXVIII Super Bowl Halftime Show.

Jackson is an industry veteran, originally exposed to show business by her famous siblings in Jackson 5 and later known as the younger sister of international pop star Michael Jackson. While forging an acting career on the hit television shows Good Times, Diff’rent Strokes and Fame, Jackson released her self-titled debut album with A&M records in 1982.
Yet, it wasn\u2019t until she signed a 25 million-dollar record deal with Virgin Records and collaborated with hitmakers Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis that she began to make her mark in the music industry with her own identifiable style. Her record-breaking third and fourth albums, Control (1986) and Rhythm Nation (1989), reached number one on the Billboard charts — with each selling more than 10 million copies worldwide.
In 1993, the best-selling recording artist shed her clean-cut image and appeared topless on the cover of Rolling Stone Magazine while promoting her Janet LP. Her new sex-symbol status was embraced by fans that helped catapult her provocative 1997 album, The Velvet Rope, into a multimillion-dollar success. On the acting front, Jackson secured lead roles in top movies including Poetic Justice, The Nutty Professor: The Klumps, Why Did I Get Married? and For Colored Girls.
Jackson’s professional accolades include American Music Awards, Grammy Awards, Billboard Awards, MTV Video Music Awards, World Music Awards, MTV’s Vanguard Award, GLAAD\u2019s Vanguard Award, and Academy Award and Golden Globe Award nominations. The unique sound, choreography and fashion that popularized her videos on MTV during the 80’s and 90’s has continued to inspire entertainers and fashionistas worldwide. Having sold an estimated 160 million records, s he has solidified her rightful place in history and pop culture as a global icon.
Jackson will be inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame during a ceremony scheduled on March 29 at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, along with Def Leppard, Stevie Nicks, The Cure, Radiohead, Roxy Music and the Zombies.
