When NBC\u2019s Saturday Night Live tapped Ben Stiller to play Michael Cohen, former attorney and fixer for President Trump, at Cohen\u2019s congressional hearing, the variety show left no joke unturned.
With Kenan Thompson playing representative Elijah Cummings at the hearing, SNL\u2019s audience took to laughter in the humorous cold open.
First, here\u2019s a primer on what happened in the real-life congressional hearing with Cohen:
Cohen uttered phrases about Trump like, \u201che\u2019s a racist, he\u2019s a conman, he\u2019s a cheat,\u201d and alleged that Trump knew about the WikiLeaks dump ahead of time. As reports noted, the real congressional hearing featuring Cohen himself was television enough.
But, leave it SNL to take things a step further with spoofs of the real thing:
1. Thompson\u2019s character as Cummings asks the audience in the congressional hearing to stay professional and to not \u201cooh and ah\u201d if they heard something outrageous. \u201cThis is not \u2018Married with Children,’\u201d he says.
2. Thompson\u2019s Cummings also says, \u201cI\u2019m told I should tease this, because it\u2019s all anybody cares about anymore: coming up a performance by Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez\u201d\u2026a nod to the young congresswoman\u2019s popularity as #AOC.

3. \u201cFor any other president, this would be the most damning and humiliating moment of their lives, but for Trump, it\u2019s just Wednesday,\u201d Thompson\u2019s Cummings continues.
4. \u201cCohen, you wrote this statement yourself,\u201d Thompson\u2019s Cummings asks Stiller\u2019s Cohen. \u201cYes, but I had some help from the guys who wrote Green Book,\u201d Stiller\u2019s Cohen retorts.
5. \u201cLadies and gentlemen of the jury,\u201d Stiller\u2019s Cohen begins. \u201cNot a court,\u201d says Thompson. \u201cThank you for inviting me here today to correct the record under oath,\u201d Stiller\u2019s Cohen continues. \u201cLast time I testified was also under oath, but this time, I like, really mean it.\u201d
6. \u201cI\u2019m here today to tell you that Mr. Trump is a racist,\u201d Stiller\u2019s Cohen states. The audience is unfazed and silent. \u201cWow, I thought that would be a bigger reaction.\u201d Stiller\u2019s Cohen says.
7. Stiller\u2019s Cohen then released a copy of the letter he was directed by Mr. Trump to use to threaten the latter\u2019s high school, warning them not to release his SAT scores:

8. \u201cIn conclusion, I know that I was wrong,\u201d Stiller\u2019s Cohen says. \u201cAnd I know it cos I got caught.\u201d
9. \u201cFor too many years, I was loyal to a man when I should not have been,\u201d he says. \u201cNow I know how Kloe Kardashian feels.\u201d (The SNL audience gasps and goes, \u201cooOoOhhh!\u201d)
10. \u201cAnd now I\u2019m all out of faith,\u201d Stiller\u2019s Cohen says in conclusion. \u201cThis is how I feel; I\u2019m cold and I am shamed, lying naked on the floor. Illusion never changed, into something real. I\u2019m wide awake and I can see the perfect sky is torn.\u201d The SNL audience laughs at this reference to Natalie Imbruglia\u2019s \u201cTorn\u201d song.<\/p>\n
