Some of the most heart-tugging moments of Saturday\u2019s 9\/11 commemoration came when young children \u2014 all born long after the deaths of the grandparents they wished to honor \u2014 stood at the podium to help read out the names of the terror attack\u2019s nearly 3,000 victims. \u201cFor my grandfather, Michael San Phillip, \u201d Charlotte Spero told the crowd of mourners on the 9\/11 Memorial Plaza in lower Manhattan as she paid tribute to her grandfather, an investment banker who worked in the South Tower. \u201cWho I was never able to meet, but I\u2019m pretty sure we would have had a lot of fun together,\u201d she said with a smile. Mina Clemente,9, had a special request for her grandfather, Cesar Amoranto Alviar, an accountant with Marsh & McLennan. \u201cThank you for watching over us,\u201d the little girl said. \u201cAnd please convince Mommy to get us a husky someday.\u201d \u201cShe totally surprised me with the dog thing,\u201d Mina\u2019s mother Gemma Alviar told The Post. \u201cOK, no pressure there, saying that on national television \u2014 I guess we have to deliver.\u201d Emma Bowie made a promise to her grandfather Martin John Coughlan, a carpenter who happened to be doing renovation work in the towers that day. \u201cI will always carry on your legacy and spirit,\u201d she vowed. \u201cI\u2019ll never forget you.\u201d Amanda Froehlich had high praise for her grandfather Philip T. Hayes, the World Trade Center\u2019s fire safety director, who was killed soon after he saved children from a day-care center in the complex. \u201cYou will always be my hero,\u201d Amanda said. \u201cI\u2019ve heard so many amazing stories about you, and you are such a great role model as my grandpa.\u201d But Jake DiVirgilio\u2019s simple words said it all when he spoke of his grandfather, bond broker David Francis Ferrugio. \u201cWe all miss you,\u201d the young boy said as he strained to reach the microphone. \u201cAnd even though I didn\u2019t get to meet you, I still love you.\u201d<\/p>\n
