On his own, Ken is an incredibly interesting-looking Killer, and early results from the PTB point towards him being a very fun addition to the roster. At the same time, his entry to Dead by Daylight could end up being a turning point. There is a second layer to his arrival that could impact future Killer selections in a major way.
The Dead by Daylight Tokyo Ghoul crossover might not include a survivor, but Ken Kaneki makes up for that with his gameplay. Ken is one of the game’s more mobile killers, able to use his Kagunes to traverse the map. Since he has only been in the PTB for a little while, it remains to be seen how he will stack up to the game’s other killers, but considering how strong many mobility-based killers are, Ken is in a good position so far. That, combined with his cool aesthetic, makes him an asset for Dead by Daylight.
Ken Kaneki Isn’t Just Dead by Daylight’s First Anime Killer, He’s Not the Same Person Anymore

As many have noted, being Dead by Daylight’s first anime crossover is the biggest takeaway from the Tokyo Ghoul chapter. For one, it shows a lot of faith in Tokyo Ghoul on Behavior’s part for them to make Ken the first original Killer to enter the game from an anime or Manga. However, there’s a second thing about Ken as a Killer that makes him notable. Ken is Tokyo Ghoul’s protagonist, and despite his ruthlessness, he is not a villain. His debut in Dead by Daylight shows that the Entity can potentially count even non-evil characters among its Killers.
Of course, there is a reason why Ken ended up as one of Dead by Daylight’s Killers. According to lore, it’s a version of Ken that was manipulated by the Entity into foregoing his humanity and embracing his hunger, now living solely to kill and feed. While Ken isn’t naturally evil, this shows that the Entity is fully capable of twisting someone into the worst version of themselves if given the opportunity. As a result, this version of Ken is now using his terrifying powers as a tool of the Entity, and he’s far from the only character that could be corrupted like that.
This twist in Ken’s recruitment could turn up again, and it’s possible that some notable anti-heroes in gaming and beyond could be twisted into new killers. For instance, a version of Hitman’s Agent 47 without his standards could be turned into a determined, unrelenting Killer. Stripping Grand Theft Auto 5’s Trevor of his few redeeming qualities would likewise create a horrific threat in the Entity’s realm. Ken’s presence in the game is proof of what the Entity can do to create new Killers. Any dangerous, potentially corruptible character could be next to catch the Entity’s attention and become its latest Killer. Characters no longer have to strictly be villains to become a Killer in Dead by Daylight.
After Dead by Daylight’s Five Nights at Freddy’s crossover, future licensed Killers and Survivors will once again be a mystery. Many more heinous villains are likely to join the ranks of the Killers. At the same time, it’s certainly possible that more characters who wouldn’t normally take on the role could find themselves twisted into it by the Entity. Ken Kaneki could be an omen for the future of Dead by Daylight’s incoming Killers.

Ken Kaneki’s debut in Dead by Daylight breaks ground in one obvious way, but there’s a second theme in his role worth considering.
