Tyla\u2019s performance during Coachella Weekend 2 sparked comparisons to another pop icon: Britney Spears. During the April 18 show, the \u201cWater\u201d singer wore a green bra, body chain, and denim mini shorts with green fringe. Fans tied the look to Spears\u2019 2001 MTV VMAs outfit \u2014 when she performed \u201cI\u2019m a Slave 4 U\u201d with a yellow python on her shoulders. But according to Tyla, her \u2018fit choice was not inspired by anyone, not even Spears.
\u201cLove her but I just thought the outfit was fly\u2026no inspo,\u201d Tyla posted on X, formerly called Twitter, after a fan account @tylasgirl wrote that Tyla paid tribute to Spears with the look. The since-deleted tweet read, \u201cTyla\u2019s outfit for Coachella is inspired by the icon Britney Spears,\u201d per a screenshot.
Under Tyla\u2019s response, another X account weighed in, \u201cI personally think she is a copycat and too full of herself.\u201d Tyla clapped back, \u201cPersonally I think you should stfu.\u201d
Tyla may not have had Spears in mind when planning her stage \u2018fit, but other pop culture accounts and outlets have noted the similarities since her performance. \u201cTyla paying homage to Britney Spears during her Coachella set tonight,\u201d one wrote on April 18. Some fans thought that Tyla\u2019s response to the speculation was shady. \u201cTyla\u2019s outfit looks like what they sell when u order the Britney Spears costume online for Halloween, and that\u2019s okay! They both look fab but It\u2019s definitely inspired idk why she said it wasn\u2019t I think her stylist set her up!\u201d one fan wrote on X.
Tyla is a self-proclaimed fan of Spears, so it\u2019s unlikely that she would be purposefully shading her. During a March interview with Billboard, she listed off the women who have been the \u201cmost influential\u201d to her career as an \u201cartist.\u201d Tyla told the outlet, \u201cTems is a big one.
