Filmmaker Nancy Meyers shared an emotional message via Instagram Monday mourning the death of her «sister» Diane Keaton.<\/b>
\nNancy Meyers shared an emotional tribute to Diane Keaton, reflecting on their decades of collaboration and close friendship.
The filmmaker wrote some of Keaton\u2019s most beloved films, including 1987\u2019s \u201cBaby Boom,\u201d 1991\u2019s \u201cFather of the Bride,\u201d and 1995\u2019s \u201cFather of the Bride Part II.\u201d Meyers later wrote and directed 2003\u2019s \u201cSomething\u2019s Gotta Give,\u201d which Keaton starred in with fellow acting great Jack Nicholson.
\u201cWe have lost a giant,\u201d Meyers, 75, wrote on Instagram Monday. \u201cA brilliant actress who time and again laid herself bare to tell our stories.\u201d
\u201cAs a woman, I lost a friend of almost 40 years \u2014 at times over those years, she felt like a sister because we shared so many truly memorable experiences,\u201d she continued. \u201cAs a filmmaker, I\u2019ve lost a connection with an actress that one can only dream of.\u201d
Meyers noted how she and Keaton truly understood each other and praised the Oscar-winning actress\u2019 humor and vulnerability.
\u201cShe goes deep,\u201d Meyers shared. \u201cAnd I know those who have worked with her know what I know\u2026 she made everything better. Every set up, every day, in every movie, I watched her give it her all.\u201d
Meyers concluded, \u201cShe was fearless, she was like nobody ever, she was born to be a movie star, her laugh could make your day and for me, knowing her and working with her \u2014 changed my life. Thank you Di. I\u2019ll miss you forever.\u201d
Keaton died on Saturday in California. She was 79-years-old.
Though her cause of death is still unknown, her friend told People that the actress\u2019 health had rapidly declined unexpectedly in past few months.
\u201cIn her final months, she was surrounded only by her closest family, who chose to keep things very private,\u201d the source said. \u201cEven longtime friends weren\u2019t fully aware of what was happening.\u201d
Keaton is survived by her two children \u2014 daughter Dexter, 29, and son Duke, 25 \u2014 whom she adopted in her \u201950s.
Though she never married, her famous exes are reportedly taking her death hard.
Woody Allen \u2014 whom Keaton dated for a few years, starting in 1969 \u2014 penned an emotional tribute to the actress, writing, \u201cA few days ago the world was a place that included Diane Keaton. Now it\u2019s a world that does not. Hence, it\u2019s a drearier world.\u201d
Al Pacino, whom Keaton was in an on-again, off-again relationship with from 1974-1990, now regrets never marrying her, a friend of the actor told the Daily Mail.
\u201cI know he will forever regret he didn\u2019t make his move when he had the chance,\u201d the source said. \u201cFor years after he and Diane split, Al used to say, \u2018If it\u2019s meant to be, it\u2019s never too late for a do-over.\u2019 But sadly, now it is.\u201d
