First of all, my simple love of sailing and adventure started on a tiny Sunfish sailboat when I was 8 years old. And I’m grateful to say, I feel the same awe and excitement for sailing now as I did then, even though the yachts I get to sail these days are…ahem…quite a bit bigger than a 12-foot-long Sunfish.
But warm and fuzzy feelings aside. I believe there SHOULD be an uptick in new large sailing yachts being introduced! This is simply because when it comes to large yachts that can travel with a virtually Net 0 propulsion system NOW (yes, I know when the conditions are right!), nothing can compete with a big, powerful, well-designed and easy to operate sailing yacht.
And I must admit, seeing two well-known yacht design firms collaborate on a brand new 35m (114-foot) sailing yacht concept that was introduced on the opening day of Monaco Yacht Show brought a smile to me face too. That call it Flowform. Winch Design designed the interiors and Frers Design was responsible for the exterior design and naval architecture. According to advanced reports, the exterior centers around a gorgeous transparent deckhouse that combines the elegance of sailing with modern technology and of course, sustainability.
The interior pays homage to the elements of sailing: the flow of water, the strength of the wind, and the movement of light. A bright, natural palette combines warm walnut, koto, and bleached oak woodwork that’s accented with tactile fabrics and fine leather detailing.
Down below, the salon is bathed in natural light and provides a direct connection to the sailing action. A highlight of the owner’s suite is a luscious, curved Foglizzo & Winch Design leather headboard. Overhead, a wave-inspired ceiling and skylight brings light into the room and frames a view of the sails above.
And the best part is, when the wind is right, few yachts can be greener than this new concept sailing yacht from such well-respected design firms.

Two well-known yacht design firms collaborate on a brand new 35m (114-foot) sailing yacht concept The uptick new large sailing yachts that have been introduced recently makes me smile for several reasons.
