DC Studios will produce a new adaptation of the classic comic for HBO.<\/b>
\nThe James Gunn and Peter Safran era of DC Studios is expanding its television slate with a new adaptation of Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons\u2019 seminal work, V for Vendetta, according to Variety.
Writer Pete Jackson (Somewhere Boy) has been tapped to pen the scripts for the series based on the graphic novel that will be set for release on HBO. Additionally, the trade shared that Safran and Gunn are among the show\u2019s producers.
V for Vendetta was first turned into a Wachowskis-written and James McTeigue-directed Warner Bros. feature in 2006; the Natalie Portman and Hugo Weaving starring film will be returning to theaters for its 20th anniversary next year. Portman played the story\u2019s protagonist, Evey, a young woman who breaks free of the chains of patriarchal oppression to help a masked vigilante take on the fascist regime controlling Britain in a dystopian near future, which definitely feels quite evergreen now. The Guy Fawkes mask featured in the movie entered the tech-era vigilantism as it was co-opted most famously by the hacktivist group Anonymous in their targeting of governments and corporations worldwide.
It\u2019s not yet known if the series will stick closely to the book or provide a reimagining of Moore and Gibbons\u2019 work in the way that Damon Lindelof approached his Watchmen series back in 2019. DC Studios\u2019 live-action series slate has also featured The Penguin and the upcoming Lanterns series.<\/p>\n
