\nMelissa Joan Hart is reflecting on \u201cone of the worst days\u201d of her life.
The \u201cSabrina the Teenage Witch\u201d star opened up about the incident \u2013 and how Britney Spears was involved \u2013 while looking at pictures from the highs and lows of her nearly 40-year career earlier this month.
\u201cAw! Me and Britney!\u201d Hart, 49, began while showing off a snap of her and the pop star at the New York City premiere of \u201cDrive Me Crazy\u201d in 1999.
\u201cIf you look at my eyes, they\u2019re very bloodshot because this was what I would consider, if you read my book, one of the worst days of my life at the time,\u201d she continued.
The teen rom-com, which took its title from Spears\u2019 hit song \u201c(You Drive Me) Crazy,\u201d starred Hart and Adrian Grenier as neighbors who became unlikely dates.
Hart, however, had to leave the premiere early because she was due in Canada to film a scene for \u201cScary Movie\u201d \u2013 until she wasn\u2019t.
\u201cWe did the press together, and then we went inside to watch the movie, but I was actually flying to Vancouver to shoot the movie,\u201d she explained. \u201cI was supposed to be the small part in the beginning, that\u2019s like the Drew Barrymore knockoff part.\u201d
\u201cThey decided when I did the fitting that I didn\u2019t have big enough boobs,\u201d Hart added.
The \u201cClarissa Explains It All\u201d alum revealed that she was already on her way to the airport when she learned she had been passed over for the \u201cScary Movie\u201d role that would ultimately go to Carmen Electra.
\u201cI\u2019m driving to the airport, and back in those days, you had the cell phone in the limo, and I got a call, and it was like, \u2018Turn around, go back to your premiere. You\u2019ve been fired from the movie’,\u201d she recalled.
\u201cAnd I was like, all right, at least I get to hang out there,\u201d Hart added.
To make matters worse, the actress then learned that she had been \u201cfired\u201d from \u201cSabrina the Teenage Witch\u201d shortly after returning to the premiere of \u201cDrive Me Crazy.\u201d
\u201cMy lawyer meets up with me first and says, \u2018Because of your cover of Maxim magazine, you\u2019re being fired from your show’,\u201d Hart, who appeared on the cover of Maxim\u2019s October 1999 issue, remembered.
\u201cI really start crying, and then my dad comes and hugs me,\u201d she shared. \u201cI don\u2019t see my dad often, so for him to hug me? I was like, \u2018Oh my God, my dad\u2019s hugging me.\u2019 It was just a dramatic night.\u201d
But despite being told she was let go from the popular WB sitcom, Hart was actually not fired and continued to star as the titular Sabrina Spellman until it ended four seasons later in 2003.
The \u201cMelissa & Joey\u201d alum previously opened up about what she called \u201cone of the worst days\u201d of her life during an appearance on the \u201cPod Meets World\u201d podcast back in 2023.
At the time, she credited the backlash from her Maxim magazine cover with helping \u201cDrive Me Crazy\u201d gross nearly triple its budget.
\u201cCan Melissa be sexy? She\u2019s 23 \u2014 is she allowed to be sexy? What\u2019s going on here? Is it allowed? Is it OK? Why is she being fired from her show? And all the drama,\u201d she reflected.
\u201cIt made for \u2018Drive Me Crazy\u2019 to come out and be a huge success,\u201d Hart concluded.<\/p>\n
