An investigation is underway after an off-duty Department of Homeland Security agent shot and killed a neighbor who was allegedly armed with a rifle on New Year’s Eve.<\/b>
\nA quiet Los Angeles neighborhood was disrupted by deadly gunfire when an off-duty federal agent shot and killed a neighbor who was allegedly armed with a rifle on New Year\u2019s Eve.
Officers responded to reports of gunfire on the 17150 block of Roscoe Boulevard around 10:30 p.m.
The victim \u2014 described as a Black male in his 30s \u2014 was armed with what was believed to be a rifle, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.
The victim allegedly fired his gun into the air at some point, according to CBS LA, though LAPD would not confirm that information with The Post.
At some point, a neighbor confronted the gunman. That neighbor was an off-duty agent with the Department of Homeland Security, authorities said.
The off-duty agent fired, striking the suspect, police said.
LAFD paramedics were called to the scene, and around 11:07 p.m. the man was pronounced dead.
Investigators said it remains unclear whether the suspect pointed or fired his weapon at the off-duty agent. No arrests had been made as of Thursday morning, and additional details were not immediately available.
The shooting remains under investigation.<\/p>\n
