Google is finally acknowledging the problem, with a fix coming eventually.
The Google Home app is a really good, central place to control your smart home, but it’s certainly not free from the occasional set of errors. And one of those errors that’s been fairly widespread as of late is a bug that causes lights and switches to be shown as “offline” right after you open up the Google Home app. The issue tends to resolve itself within 5-10 seconds, but it can be pretty frustrating if you’re trying to quickly adjust lighting in your home.
At least, that’s what happens to many. For others, a bigger issue causes the Google Home app to show lights and switches as offline for longer, even if those devices are online through other smart home apps, such as the ones specific to that device.
In either case, lights and switches are the main devices affected, with various other smart home devices working as normal.
Google has finally acknowledged the issue via a Reddit comment, confirming its teams are aware of the problem and working on a fix.
Google says:
We are aware of an issue causing some devices to show offline in the Google Home app. We are working to resolve this ASAP and will circle back when the fix rolls out.
It’s unclear when this fix might roll out, but it’s certainly welcome. While the issue is usually just a minor hiccup, blocking access for a few seconds at a time, it’s still a pretty frustrating experience!

If you’ve opened the Google Home app in the past few weeks, you’ve probably been greeted with an “offline” status.
