\n\u201cReal Time\u201d host Bill Maher criticized celebrity \u201cvirtue-signaling\u201d at the 2026 Grammys, calling out singer Billie Eilish\u2019s anti-ICE speech.
\u201cYou don\u2019t know facts,\u201d Maher said of the singer during Friday\u2019s episode of his HBO show.
Eilish, who won Song of the Year at the music award show, condemned ICE during her acceptance speech.
The 24-year-old went viral when she declared, \u201cNo one is illegal on stolen land.\u201d
Maher picked apart a transcript of Eilish\u2019s speech, which began with the singer saying, \u201cIt\u2019s hard to know what to say.\u201d
\u201cThen, don\u2019t say anything, \u2018cause you don\u2019t know things,\u201d he charged. \u201cYou didn\u2019t go to school, I don\u2019t think, and you don\u2019t know facts.\u201d
However, Maher admitted he agreed with Eilish on one subject, before roasting her credibility on immigration.
\u201cShe said, \u2018Keep fighting and protesting and speaking up.\u2019 I totally agree with that,\u201d Maher continued. \u201cShe said, \u2018Voices still matter. People matter.\u2019\u201d
\u201cAnd I would just say so does knowledge,\u201d he added.
It was \u201cpretty great\u201d that a tribe in California asked for Eilish\u2019s house after her speech, the host argued.
He then confronted his panel with a follow-up question to the singer\u2019s speech.
\u201cWhat\u2019s the practical next step if you say there is no such thing as illegal people on stolen land?\u201d Maher asked. \u201cDo we just go back to living in teepees?\u201d
One of Maher\u2019s panelists, former New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, said his kids \u201cforced\u201d him to watch the Grammys. He ridiculed what he called \u201call bulls\u2013t.\u201d
\u201cThe fact is, it\u2019s a complicated history,\u201d Christie said.
\u201cPeople got screwed along the way. Yes, we agree with that,\u201d the Republican conceded. \u201cBut if what we\u2019re going to do today is say these pronouncements and then have no real solution behind that pronouncement, it\u2019s all bulls\u2013t.\u201d
Meanwhile, Chrystia Freeland, Canada\u2019s former deputy prime minister and a self-identifying progressive, shared what \u201creally bugs\u201d her about the Grammys controversy.
\u201cI thought it was powerful that some of those award winners at the Grammys did speak about ICE,\u201d Freeland countered.
\u201cAnd I agree with you broadly, Bill, that celebrities should not be the leaders of political movements. But I think it would have been wrong for them not to comment on this really horrible thing happening,\u201d she continued.
Earlier in the show, Maher compared Eilish\u2019s remarks to the \u201cfrom the river to the sea\u201d slogan often heard during \u201cFree Palestine\u201d protests.
\u201cThe people of Los Angeles will not move, and neither will all Israelis from Gaza,\u201d Maher asserted.
\u201cWe have to deal with the future, not just the past,\u201d he posited.
