Twitter continues to face issues as its China head announced her departure after assuming the position only eight months earlier. The company’s managing director in Greater China, Kathy Chen, tweeted her decision through 12 messages on the social media site.

Chen stated that it was the «right time» for her to depart as the Twitter APAC team is now on the firm ground, adding that she will «take some time off to recharge, study about different cultures and then pursue more international business opportunities. »
Twitter is officially banned in China and the company operates through its office in Hong Kong. The company uses Hong Kong base to focus on Chinese advertisers and collaborates with developers as well. The office in Hong Kong was opened in 2015.
Chen’s appointment was as controversial as her departure. Her previous links to the People’s Liberation Army and Computer Associates did not go down well with free speech activists. In her departure tweets, she said that the Great China has emerged as one of the fastest growing revenue markets for Twitter in Asia Pacific region.
Chen also claimed that the advertiser base for the microblogging site increased nearly 400 percent over the past 2 years. She was responsible for developing strategies for attracting more advertisement revenue from Chinese businesses.
Twitter has seen exodus of its several top executives in the recent past. Among the top employees who left were the company’s chief technology officer Adam Messinger, chief operating office Adam Bain, global media head Katie Stanton, engineering executive Alex Roetter, and human resources head Brian Schipper.<\/p>\n
