\u201cBaby Driver,\u201d \u201cDunkirk,\u201d \u201cThe Shape of Water,\u201d \u201cStar Wars: The Last Jedi\u201d and \u201cWonder Woman\u201d have been nominated for the 54th Annual CAS Awards for Outstanding Achievement in Sound Mixing, the Cinema Audio Society announced on Wednesday.
In recent years, more than two-thirds of CAS nominees have gone on to receive Oscar nominations in the Best Sound Mixing category.
The five nominated films are all strong contenders for the sound-mixing Oscar, though they face competition from \u201cBlade Runner 2049,\u201d \u201cThe Greatest Showman,\u201d \u201cWar for the Planet of the Apes\u201d and others.
The animated-film nominees are \u201cCars 3,\u201d \u201cCoco,\u201d \u201cDespicable Me 3,\u201d \u201cFerdinand\u201d and \u201cThe Lego Batman Movie,\u201d while documentary nominations went to \u201cAn Inconvenient Sequel,\u201d \u201cJane\u201d and three music-themed movies: \u201cEric Clapton: Life in 12 Bars,\u201d \u201cGaga: Five Feet Two\u201d and \u201cLong Strange Trip.\u201d

Television nominees included \u201cBig Little Lies,\u201d \u201cBlack Mirror,\u201d \u201cTwin Peaks,\u201d \u201cGame of Thrones,\u201d \u201cThe Crown,\u201d \u201cThe Handmaid\u2019s Tale,\u201d \u201cBallers,\u201d \u201cSilicon Valley\u201d and \u201cVeep.\u201d
The other organization that honors sound, the Motion Picture Sound Editors, does not announce the nominees for its Golden Reel Awards until January 22, the day before Oscar nominations.
The 54th Annual CAS Awards will take place on February 24 at the OMNI Los Angeles Hotel. At that ceremony, the Cinema Audio Society Filmmaker Award will go to \u201cDarkest Hour\u201d director Joe Wright, the CAS Career Achievement Award will be given to Anna Behlmer and the Edward J. Greene Award for the Advancement of Sound will go to Tomlinson Holman.
