The actor revealed the news during an interview on Australian breakfast TV show Sunrise on Wednesday.
After host Samantha Armytage asked if rumours of a Top Gun 2 movie were accurate, Tom shocked both her and her co-host David Koch by answering with a simple, ‘It’s true’.

‘Really?’ gasped an obviously surprised Samantha.
‘Yeah, it’s true. Yes, ‘ repeated the Hollywood star.
‘When? Are you allowed to say when? Can you give us a hint?’ prodded Sam.
‘You know what? I’m going to start filming it probably in the next year, ‘ he revealed.
The visibly pleased hosts continued to quiz the star and fawn over the breaking news.
‘Do you know how many people are so happy to hear that?’ Sam asked Tom.
‘You’re the first people I’ve said this to, ‘ he responded with a smile.
‘You asked me, and so I’m telling you it is going to happen, ‘ he continued.
‘I went to boarding school and we watched the volleyball scene literally every day, ‘ gushed Sam.
