Reviews of “One More Light, ” the latest album by Linkin Park, were not so much negative as they were incredulous about the onetime rap-metal stars’ continuing embrace of electronic pop. This version of the band, the blog Consequence of Sound wrote, is “ entirely unrecognizable.”
But it was recognizable enough to the band’s fans to send the album to No. 1, making “One More Light” (Warner Bros.) Linkin Park’s sixth release to top the Billboard chart. It sold about 100,000 copies as a full album, and had 13.9 million streams in the United States, according to Nielsen — a better showing than had been expected .
Also this week, Kendrick Lamar’s “DAMN.” is No. 2; the self-titled debut solo album by Harry Styles, the One Direction heartthrob, fell two spots to No. 3; Drake’s playlist “More Life” is No. 4; and Chris Stapleton’s “From a Room: Volume 1” is in fifth place.
