The Japanese coast guard is investigating why it took almost an hour for a Philippine-flagged container ship to report a collision with a U. S. Navy destroyer off the coast of Japan early Saturday morning, killing seven aboard the USS Fitzgerald.
The Japanese coastguard originally reported the collision time to be at 2: 20 am, however changed the time to 2: 30 am after interviewing Filipino crewmembers.
U. S. Navy Officials are maintaining that the collision occurred at 2: 20 am.
