The 17-year-old girl who died after slipping off an oceanside cliff near the Lands End area of San Francisco and plummeting 50 feet to the rocks below was identified as a Corte Madera resident, authorities said Friday.
Victoria La Rocca lost her footing and fell from the top of a cliff about 6 p.m. on Thursday and landed on the rocks just east of Lands End, said Lt. Jonathan Baxter, a spokesman for the San Francisco Fire Department.
Treacherous conditions made it difficult for rescue swimmers to reach La Rocca, prompting emergency crews to use a personal watercraft to get to her.
Rescue crews secured La Rocca to a flotation device to bring her to shore at China Beach.
She was pronounced dead in the ambulance, Baxter said.
