A 3-year-old Spanish boy and his mom were among the 13 killed when a terrorist van slammed into pedestrians in Barcelona, according to reports on Friday.
The mother’s uncle also died in the attack, authorities said. His wife was injured trying to save the boy from the vehicle, witnesses said.
The family was enjoying a Thursday afternoon on the Las Ramblas promenade when the van suddenly careened into them, The Mirror reported .
The uncle, Francisco Lopez Rodriguez, 65, has been identified, but his niece and her toddler son have not yet been, the Spanish news outlet Republica reported .
The mom and her young son were from Rubí, Barcelona, The Daily Mail reported .
Rodriguez’s wife survived the attack, but she remains hospitalized for serious injuries, The Mirror reported. She was injured trying to save the boy, The Daily Mail reported.
The boy’s grandmother was also walking with the family, the outlet reported. Reports did not indicate whether she was injured.
The other named victims included 35-year-old Bruno Gulotta and 25-year-old Luca Russo, both of Italy, and Elke Vanbockrijck, a 44-year-old Belgian national.
Meanwhile, Jared Tucker, a 34-year-old California man who was on vacation in Barcelona with his wife Heidi — and a 7-year-old Australian boy, Julian Cadman, whose mom was seriously wounded — were missing.
Police are still looking for the alleged van driver Moussa Oukabir, who is believed to have fled unarmed from the scene of the attack.
