High schooler killed when log falls on him in football practice

Six teens were carrying the 12-foot log, as big around as a utility pole, when the victim was hit in the head.
A 16-year-old boy died during high school football practice Thursday when he was hit in the head with a 12-foot log during a Navy SEALs-type drill.
Joshua Mileto, a junior at Sachem East High School in New York, was carrying a large log overhead with several teammates when he was struck, according to The Associated Press. Coaches were supervising the preseason camp’s “team-building exercise” when the boy was injured. He later died at a local hospital.
The death raised questions about whether teens should be doing military-style drills. They have become increasingly popular in some areas, with former military personnel offering instruction on how to perform them.
High school coaches have said log-carrying drills are more about building a sense of teamwork than strength training.
